SIGNAL TIMING PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES - STATE OF THE PRACTICE

This report documents the current state-of-the-practice in traffic signal timing. The information presented in the report was obtained through a survey of more than 100 state, city and county agencies responsible for traffic signal operations. The organization of the report generally follows the organization of the questionnaire, beginning with a presentation of issues associated with the types of traffic signal control currently in use, followed by a discussion of signal timing methodology and the agency staff responsible for implementation. The report concludes with recommendations for future directions in the identification and publication of traffic signal timing best practices.
