POST-TENSIONED INVESTIGATION REPORT FOR SCOTT LANE ACCOMMODATION BRIDGE: PHASE 3, VOLUME 2 OF 2 SUMMARY REPORT
This report contains the results of the Phase 3 post-tensioned bridge inspection of Scott Lane Accommodation Bridge. This is a three-lane structure which crosses the M62 motorway. The central suspended span is a single precast post-tensioned twin celled box beam. The two outer spans are in situ reinforced concrete post-tensioned box beams. These comprise an anchor section and a cantilever section. An inclined pier supports the cantilever section. The anchor section is supported by the pier at one end and a ground beam at the other end. The substructure systems and prestressing systems are described. The principal results of the preliminary desk study indicated that the structure is in fair condition and the risk of sudden collapse considered to be low. The preliminary site inspection indicated that there are numerous longitudinal cracks to the beams soffit where water seepage may have occurred. Concrete spalling has occured to both ends of the central suspended span in the beam soffit. This has resulted in exposure of corroding reinforcing bars. The defects have not yet had a detrimental effect on the integrity of the structure. The principal resutls of the full site inspection indicated that the tendons and anchors were in good conditon but that the waterproofing system has failed in a localised area. Monitoing of the structure is recommended until remedial works can be carried out.
