FIRST'S FTR VISION

First is seeking to raise the profile of bus travel in the UK using new vehicles called StreetCars. First is to offer local authorities a transport system, ftr (short for future), to rival trams but at a fraction of the cost. The StreetCar combines the affordability, accessibility and flexibility of a bus with the image, dedicated infrastructure and perceived reliability of a tram. Pilot routes under consideration in the UK are in Leeds, Sheffield and York. The articulated StreetCar has the front axle located right at the front and the entrance door behind it. The driving position is higher than usual and offset towards the centre. StreetCar will be built by Wrightbus using components from Volvo.
