IRELAND PLANS EFC PROGRESS
The Republic of Ireland's National Roads Authority (NRA) has awarded a French toll system integrator a 2 million euro contract to install automated toll collection (ATC) in the new Dublin Port Tunnel. The tunnel is expected to ease traffic congestion and provide fast access from the Port of Dublin to Ireland's M1 highway. The 2000-2006 National Development Plan for the Republic of Ireland calls for private partnership projects (PPP) as a critical component in deliver the necessary improvements to the highway infrastructure. All operators of future highways that are developed under PPP contracts will be required to provide drivers the choice of paying by cash or ATC.
