Huge airplane weights require double the thickness of concrete in this article on finding fuel leaks underneath the concrete. Many airports have fuel pipe running underneath their runways but finding leaks can be difficult. The answer can be found in sensor technology that is loaded onto the outside of the pipe. When fuel hits the sensor it sets off an alarm with information on the leaks location within one meter. Accurate detection is critical so that airports do not waste time and money digging up a pipe with a false leak.
