PUBLIC-PRIVATE COLLABORATION RESOLVES PARKING INADEQUACIES IN HISTORIC RIVERFRONT DISTRICT
Wilmington, Delaware needed to find a solution to inadequate parking in the revived Tran Station District (TSD) without disrupting the historic feel for the area. When a number of larger firms moved into historic buildings in the area, the old parking structure at the Amtrak station was no longer adequate. The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) enlisted an architect and an urban planner to design a stepped, low-rise deck that would accommodate enough cars and fit with the aesthetic for the area. The designers took cues from the other brick buildings in the area to meet the needs of all parties.
