FORD/ERDA SODIUM--SULFUR BATTERY DEVELOPMENT, PHASE II. PROGRESS REPORT NO. 30, NOVEMBER 1--DECEMBER 31, 1977

Research in five areas is reported. Specifications for an electric-vehicle battery to meet a duty cycle of 100 miles CVS are given. Work on system design and component development for a one-MW load leveling battery is summarized. Cr--Ni alloys were investigated for use as the sulfur container material. beta ''-alumina electrolyte tubing is being produced and evaluated on a prepilot-plant scale; sealing problems are discussed.
