Road Safety: Discussion of State of Practice
This paper presents an overview of current issues in road safety, describes some promising areas of research and provides an introduction for the papers contained in this special issue of the Journal of Transportation Engineering. The importance of new analytical tools, applications of advanced technologies and the use of human expertise for better decisions, and proactive approaches to road safety are emphasized.
