PERSONNEL FLEXIBILITY: AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO RAILWAY MARKET LIBERALISATION
The current deregulation of railroad companies is driving forward the internatiolization of the railroad markets. The article examines some of the new challenges this presents, such as need to find new and flexible personnel management solutions. One of the interesting solutions identified are fixed term contracts through private subcontractors. Using private contractors allows mangement to focus on their core activities and keep personnel costs as low as possible. Staff outsourcing also lets a trained and specialized team be made available quickly at the start of a new project, and helps companies to deal with seasonal variations.
