EXPERIENCES IN THE COMMISSIONING OF LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS CARRIERS

British Gas has recently undertaken the role of commissioning new LNG carriers at their Methane Reception Terminal at Canvey Island, taking advantage of the deep water berthing facilities. Over the past 18 years extensive experience has been accumulated at Canvey in the operational and technological aspects of handling LNG. This experience includes cooldown, operation, warmup and inspection of a full range of cryogenic plant. A brief summary of this experience and the cryogenic and marine facilities at Canvey is given, together with examples of operational alternatives made possible because of equipment and pipework flexibility.
