THE INFLUENCE OF TERRITORY PLANNING AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT ON STRATEGIC DECISIONS IN PASSENGER TRANSPORT DEVELOPMENT
Transportation planners in Lithuania are aware of how zoning and society affect strategic decisions in passenger transportation. However, the authors relate that passenger transport remains fundamentally de-linked from urban zones, contributing to increased automobile use and a decrease in train ridership. The authors explore methods to re-link urban zones and rail through changing schedules, laying track, and increasing transport service quality. These methods could then result in a higher standing in the EU and a better quality of living for Lithuanians..
