This report summarizes the findings of a technical advisary committee on roadwidths. It illustrates the advantages in designing residential roads for their intended purposes and suggests that local government should use the discretionary powers under the local government act when approving residential subdivisions to permit narrow roads in appropriate cases. A general reduction in the width of minor culs-de-sac, local roads and local distributions would result in more efficient land use, a more attractive streetscape and neighborhood and a safer environment. /TRRL/
