AN EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE RAC/ACU MOTORCYCLE TRAINING SCHEME. A FINAL REPORT

The evaluation of the effectiveness of the rac/acu (royal automobile club/auto-cycle union) training scheme was undertaken with training considered as an accident reducing measure. It was carried out jointly by teams of interviewers located at Salford University and TRRL. Details are given of the experimental and control samples, and of the questionnaires used. Analysis was undertaken considering four criteria of assessment: (1) accident rate per rider, (2) accident rate per mile/mileage range, (3) accident rate per number of months riding experience, and (4) within sample evaluation of the performance of the experimental group. The results obtained are presented and discussed. /TRRL/
