TESTING WITH IMPACT-ECHO FOR DELAMINATIONS OF A CONCRETE HIGHWAY SLAB WITH ASPHALT OVERLAY
Collecting information relative to existing reinforced concrete structures generally proves to be quite difficult. NDT evaluation of possible degradation of these structures can be even more difficult. However, society increasingly requests such information because better knowledge allows for prevention, better repair, better conception, saving money and sustainable recommendations. The case study analysed here shows detection of internal degradation in the form of delamination in the reinforced concrete slab of a Dutch highway, about 1m thick. The NDT method used is the Impact-Echo, an acoustic method based on the propagation and distortion of mechanical waves generated at the surface of the investigated structure.
