MOBILE JOB FAIR: ACCESS TO A LARGER LABOR POOL

The Partnership Transportation Management Association of Montgomery County (PTMA) services eastern Montgomery County, Pennsylvania which is one of the wealthiest counties in the nation with a low unemployment rate. Economically, it is a very viable and developing area that hosts a large number of growing businesses in the retail, food processing, manufacturing, health care, and service industries. The majority of these industries have an increasing need for large numbers of entry level employees that work unusual shift hours. In order to satisfy the need for entry level employees, the businesses have had to explore the option of mobilizing a workforce from outside of the county. This has been a challenging task for the areas because there is minimal access to mass transit service. In partnership with area employers, The Partnership TMA has searched for creative initiatives to locate and transport potential employees to area businesses. One of these initiatives has been the Mobile Job Fair. The Mobile Job Fair is an inexpensive activity that can help employers attract a larger labor pool and at the same time, help highlight new or existing transit routes. If mass transit is not an option, the PTMA suggests other alternative means of transportation such as the subsidized subscription bus service program, vanpools or "share-a-ride". The purpose of this paper is to provide other organizations with a blueprint on how to plan, promote and host a Mobile Job Fair.
