STUDY ON THE "MOBILITY" OF DIFFERENT STRUCTURAL DESIGNS FOR THE SUPERSTRUCTURE OF A CARGO FERRY

After an introduction in which he mentions some advantages of the finite-element method and the "mobility" (force/response relationship) concept in the prediction of the vibratory behaviour of ship structures, the Author compares the mobility of two structural designs for the superstructure of a cargo ferry, with the object of providing the designer with criteria for an optimum solution. The calculations were made with the FRENAT-FORMAN program package developed by CETENA. The study is described under the main headings: Description of the designs; Mathematical model; Methodology for calculating mobility; Results and their comparison; Conclusions.
