DEVELOPMENT OF CROATIAN RAILWAY NETWORK WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO INTEGRATION INTO EUROPEAN NETWORK AND ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF CROATIAN PORTS IN EUROPE

The strategy of transport sector development in the Republic of Croatia also sets guidelines for the development of the national railway network. One of the most significant objectives with respect to the railway network development is to make it capable of receiving cargo from the Adriatic ports and transporting it to Central European countries. The paper provides an overview of the current situation with respect to railway network, including its technical elements. A forecast of future transport involving national railway network and Croatian Sea ports is also given. The plan and the rate of railway network development is inter alia related to the priority of exploring possibilities of participation of Croatian ports in supply of services on the European level.
