TWO-STAGE TURBOCHARGING. THE POTENTIAL AND THE PROBLEMS

The fields of application for two-stage turbochargers are briefly reviewed, and the advantages and disadvantages of this arrangement are discussed, including ways to minimize the latter. The distribution of the pressure ratio between the two compressor stages and the mounting of the turbochargers are dealt with. The present state of turbocharging as applied to normal engines in current production is shown in a table, and includes 6 engine manufacturers.
