RUSSIAN RIVER ICEBREAKERS FROM WARTSILA

The article describes a series of six river icebreakers, intended to assist tug-and-barge combinations and river-sea ships on the shallow waterways serving Russia's expanding Siberian industry. The vessels have a displacement of 2240 tons, and an O A length of 77.6M. Three high-speed "Artsila V22" diesel engines develop and deliver 4490 shp to the tripple-screw propellers 6330 hp through a thyristor-rectifier ac/dc transmission.
