IDENTIFYING SYNERGISTIC RELATIONSHIPS OF NATIONAL AVIATION (BLUE RIBBON) COMMISSION REPORTS: A QUALITATIVE DATA ANALYSIS APPLICATION

This article reports on a study that examined three Blue Ribbon Commission reports that focused on the aerospace industry from 1993 to 2002. The authors aimed to identify significant synergies emerging the aerospace industry, as identified by the commissions' shared aims. The analysis showed three common areas of concern: modernizing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), forming partnerships between business and government, and investing in long-term research and development. An additional area of concern became apparent in the 1997 and 2002 reports: cultivating the core infrastructure for national safety and security. The authors conclude by emphasizing the need to pool resources and focus on developing a research and development infrastructure that can address the long and short-term goals of the aerospace industry and its partners. By making optimum use of technology produced in the public and private sectors, the FAA and the aerospace industry will be better able to prepare for the future demands of the global market and the rising importance of air transportation.
