COLLISION WITH A MARINE STRUCTURE

In an article by A. Taubert (for title and source, see BSRA No. 36,505, March 1974), one of three types of ship-collision studied was that between the ship and an elastic structure. The present Author, using as an example the impact between an offshore supply-ship and the elastic leg of a platform, examines Taubert's method of calculation for the impact forces and compares it with an alternative method, based on equations given in a 1971 publication, which makes use of energy balance for the calculation. This alternative method is recommended. Order from: BSRA as No. 48,316.
