A new test for the tensile strength of concrete is proposed in this paper. In addition to satisfying the usual requirements of simplicity, accuracy and reproducibility, the uniformity of stress on the test section is also ensured. The test requires simple equipment which can easily be fabricated and a compression testing machine of relatively small capacity. It is believed that the new test determines the true uniaxial tensile strength of concrete because it meets the requirements of an ideal tension test to the maximum possible extent. /TRRL/
