DREDGE HEAD POSITIONING SYSTEM IMPROVES ECONOMY IN OPERATIONS

The system described consists of Motorola "Mini-Ranger III" range measuring equipment, used to determine the position of a reference point at the dredge. Using additional information from a compass and an inclinometer, the geographical position and depth of the dredge head are calculated and displayed by a data processor. Depth information is output to a light indicator, and geographical position to an X-Y plotter, aiding the dredge master in positioning the dredge head within a given tolerance frame and allowing a "slanting slope dredging" method.
