INCREASE PROFITS FOR GT CONTAINERSHIPS

The prospect of seven and eight-digit fuel cost savings, which almost entirely are directly translatable into dollars added to the company's bottom-line profit, provided adequate incentive to an aggressive pursuit of both the blended fuel oil system development and the unique application of two different propeller designs. The experience and success achieved with the blended fuel oil (BFO) system exceeds original expectations. It is anticipated that all four EURO-class ships will be operated on BFO for at least 90 percent of the time (15 percent more than originally foreseen), representing fuel cost savings on the order of 28 percent per annum. In addition, the success achieved in the simultaneous use of two different propeller designs (showing one and one-half times their predicted savings) has supported the conversion of the remaining vessels of the class, which it is expected will result in an additional $1 million per annum savings.
