INTEGRATED CONTROL OF FREEWAY ENTRANCE RAMPS BY THRESHOLD REGULATION

The problem of freeway ramp control is investigated by modelling the freeway as a tandem-server queue. Two optimization problems are formulated. The resulting control procedures are quite similar to those which have been derived from markedly different approaches and models. Generalizations of the model and associated problems are discussed.
