TRAFFIC SIGNS: A REVIEW OF CURRENT PRACTICE

The paper reviews changes since the present signing system was introduced following the Worboys Committee in 1963 and technical developments. Principles of signing practice are re-stated and changes called for in urban signing using postcodes and symbols. A review of the use of worded messages on mandatory and warning signs is advocated. The introduction of new materials for local signs and reflective signs, plastic spray paint and adhesive studs for road markings are discussed.(a) /TRRL/
