REPLACEMENT AGGREGATES

LES GRANULATS DE REMPLACEMENT

Because of the difficulty of exploiting new conventional aggregate deposits, especially in the vicinity of high-consumption zones, an attempt was made to utilize aggregates of different origins. After recalling the requirements of the users and the consequences of these requirements as regards France, the authors review the different possibilities offered by replacement aggregates: natural materials (soft limestone, non-alluvial sand, low-quality alluvial sand, marine aggregates, clay and expanded shale); by-products and refuse: urban refuse, coal and metal by-products, and various industrial by-products. /TRRL/
