THE MEASUREMENT OF ROAD NOISE WITH HISTOGRAM-PLOTTING SOUND METER

LA MESURE DU BRUIT ROUTIER PAR SONOMETRE HISTOGRAMMEUR

The authors define highway noise, the objective parameters to take into account to evaluate discomfort threshold, and the types of apparatus for measuring sound when the latter exceeds a certain threshold and when statistical analyses of sound amplitude are carried out. Details are given of the LCPC histogram-plotting sound meter which repeatedly gives histograms on perforated tape (or on minicassette). The function and main characteristics of the apparatus are described: analog system, numerical data acquisition system, and processing and reading of the histogram. /TRRL/
