A feature of the metrobus double-deck bus developed by Metro-Cammel Weymann is the semi-integral structure. This feature allows either the complete vehicle or the separate chassis to be marketed. The standard overall length of 9.5 M can be increased to 11 M for a single-deck body. The standard vehicle has a rated gross weight of 16765 kg which allows for passenger loads of 7620 kg. Self-levelling, constant-ride height, air suspension with air spring units and hydraulic dampers are incorporated in the design. The steering system is designed to minimise injury to the driver in the event of low-height frontal impact. The design of the braking system conforms to EEC regulations and is a dual-line system incorporating stainless-steel piping. The engine compartment is of sealed construction with access doors which keeps the noise level down to 80 db(a). /TRRL/
