INFLUENCE OF FLY ASH ON THE PROTECTION OF REINFORCEMENT IN CONCRETE

INFLUENCE DES CENDRES VOLANTES SUR LA PROTECTION DES ARMATURES DANS LE BETON

The author gives the results of tests carried out to determine the influence of coal fly-ash used as partial replacement for cement or fine sand in concrete, on the protection of concrete reinforcement. The aim of the tests was to show the influence of the fly-ash content and thermal treatment of concrete on the degree of steel polarization and onthe rate of neutralization of hte concrete in a carbon dioxide environment. Other factors having an influence on the behaviour of the reinforcement, such as variation in the content of calcium hydroxide and time-related porosity, were determined. Tests were also carried out to study the behaviour of reinforced concrete members under natural conditions. /TRRL/
