ELASTIC AND BUCKLING ANALYSIS OF TRAPEZOIDAL SUPPORT DIAPHRAGMS IN STEEL BOX GIRDER BRIDGES

An analytical procedure for determining stress distributions in trapezoidal support diaphragms is presented. Full interaction of diaphragm webs and flanges is considered for the elastic analysis. Shear stress distribution along the diaphragm-web line, obtained from the elastic analysis, is applied to the stiffened and unstiffened diaphragms in isolation, to evaluate the critical buckling loads and coefficients. /Author/TRRL/
