RECONSTRUCTION OF AIRPORT MANOEUVRING SURFACE PAVEMENT

REKONSTRUKCIJA KOLNIKA MANEVARSKIH POVRSINA AERODROMA

Reconstruction of airport manoeuvring pavement, the runways in particular, is frequently undertaken. Existing pavements are either worn out or their bearing capacity is not sufficient to support the heavy aircrafts used today. Therefore they have to be strengthened. Runways are usually made of rigid and flexible pavement. The use of rigid pavement is more widespread. The reconstruction of both types of pavement has to be done gradually. The whole operation includes the preparation and improvement of the existing pavement and the construction of the new pavement. The methods of pavement design vary depending upon the type of existing and new pavement. The article points out that the same methods can be used in the reconstruction of road pavements. /TRRL/
