SYSTEM-ANALYTICAL AND MATHEMATICAL MODELLING OF DRIVE ELEMENTS IN SHIP-PROPULSION INSTALLATIONS

The need, in the concept phase of the design process, for comprehensive descriptions of the behaviour of elements in propulsion and other ship-machinery systems leads to a requirement for system-analytical and mathematical modeling of these elements. After discussing suitable forms of structural and functional description, the Author presents some methods for modeling the system elements in their capacity as complex function-carriers with multiple interconnections. An example of a flexible coupling in a propulsion system is included to provide an introduction to methods used in the determination of transfer functions for the elements.
