DATA LOGGERS FOR REFRIGERATED CARGO SHIPS AND OTHER APPLICATIONS

This article describes the design and operation of a data logger (type DS 8SL) intended for refrigerated cargo ships. The system is applicable to refrigerated cargo ships whose holds are provided with a cooling and air circulation system, or container ships, with the cooling and air circulation system arranged in insulated ducts, each serving a stack of containers. In its basic configuration, the data logger includes one or more typewriters for printing out various reports. As an option, it may include an alarm system and then a numerical printer for alarm printouts is added. Different group alarms may be presented on a special panel with LEDs as a supplement to the alarm print-out. The data logger measures mainly temperatures in the refrigeration plant, but can also measure other parameters such as the content of CO sub-2 and the relative humidity in the holds. The data logger has been type-approved by Lloyd's Register of Shipping.
