LOAD TESTING OF A MODEL TWO-SPAN CONTINUOUS PRESTRESSED CONCRETE TRAPEZOIDAL BRIDGE GIRDER

The prototype girder tested, which represents a new form of bridge girder, was designed for use on a two-span bridge having spans of 35 m. The girder comprises four pretensioned concrete troughs which are erected in series with the aid of temporary supports and subsequently made continuous by longitudinal post-tensioning after an in situ deck has been cast. The 1/3.47 scale direct model was load tested and its behavior under service and design loads is reported. Modeling aspects of the longitudinal post-tensioning are discussed.
