Evaluations of methanol vs gasoline as an automotive fuel reveals that methanol has low heating value per unit volume; low vapor pressure and high latent heat of vaporization. Further desirable characteristics of methanol fueled engines include low emission rates, low energy consumption, high power output, satisfactory cold start behavior and good driveability.
