THE LEARNING PROCESS ON MARITIME TECHNOLOGY AND THE EQUIVALENCY BETWEEN ONBOARD AND SIMULATOR TRAINING. IN: MARINE TECHNOLOGY IV

Maritime education and training (MET) using ship handling simulators has been conducted in many countries and has evaluated effective methods for improving the level of ship handling techniques. Nonetheless, MET using ship handling simulators has not been accepted as an official training process in lieu of onboard training, mainly because its effectiveness has not been verified quantitatively. The Ship-handling Simulator Research Forum in Japan has proposed a new training system and has also advanced a discussion that compares between onboard and simulator used training. In this paper, the effectiveness of MET using ship handling simulator is verified quantitatively based on the newly developed training system.
