CAR PARK MANAGEMENT - AS PART OF A TRAVEL PLAN

This paper concerns the operation and development of staff travel plans to reduce car parking on the site of Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, UK. Public transport has been promoted to staff and a bus station built at the hospital. Additional cycle racks have been installed and a cycle lane constructed in the driveway. Computer programs aided car sharing. A business travel service was set up, with pool cars rented out to staff. Car park management had become inefficient and a new form of smart card was introduced as part of an identity badge system. This electronic system is used to control access to different car parks on the site. Patient and visitor parking payment is charged separately. Travel plan initiatives are funded by car park income. Staff parking priorities had to be accommodated. Parking will have to be further reduced in the future and travel plans are targeted at this. For the covering abstract see ITRD E116332.
