BOILER FEED SYSTEM DESIGN PARAMETERS -- EFFECT ON PUMP LIFE

Several important design parameters for the boiler feed system that affect pump life are discussed. These include increased unit size, heavy emphasis on evaluating heat losses in feed systems, protracted power-plant startup times, and continuous low-flow operation that causes back-of-the-vane cavitation. Several precautions the designer should take to help avoid low-flow problems in feed-system pumps are also discussed.
