WASTE-HEAT INSTALLATION FOR DISTILLATION OF SEA WATER

Utilization of hot exhaust gases for economic heating is discussed with particular reference to an effective contact method of heating transmission in the scrubber from gas to liquid circulating in a "dirty" circuit. Also described are a convective system of waste heat utilization with heat transfer from gas to liquid circulating in a "clean" circuit and two other distillation plants suitable for use on large steam-turbine and gas-turbine ships. In low-temperature waste-heat systems, application of gas-liquid pre-heaters constructed of titanium alloy and synthetic graphite-based compounds with heat-conducting capacity similar to that of steel is recommended. In utilization of low-temperature heat at 100 deg C, the most complicated aspect is provision of effective heat transfer from gas to water. To evaluate the cost effectiveness of using waste heat to obtain fresh water in an adiabatic multi-stage distillation plant, a system of heat-balance equations on gas and water sides is considered.
