ZERO-MAINTENANCE DESIGN FOR PLAIN JOINTED CONCRETE PAVEMENTS

Design procedures for heavily trafficked jointed concrete pavements have been developed to provide "zero-maintenance" performance over a specified design period. The term "zero-maintenance" refers only to structural maintenance, which includes such activities as crack repair, joint repair, slab replacement, slab grinding, patching, and overlay. The purpose of this paper is to present some major aspects of the development of these procedures and some of the results obtained.
