PREDICTION OF SETTLEMENT OF WEAK WATER-SATURATED SOILS

Investigations conducted to improve the theory of filtration consolidation are reviewed. Supplementary consideration of a number of factors (creep of the soil framework, compressibility of the pore liquid, initial gradient, variability of the coefficient of consolidation, interaction of the phases, etc.) that influence the densification process is presented. The consolidation characteristics are determined for an instant of time at which a specific phase of consolidation is dominant: filtration or creep.
