ASPECTS OF MANAGING THE NEW BORN BUSWAY - SOME EXPERIENCES

The South East Busway, connecting the Brisbane CBD with Eight Mile Plains and Woolloongabba, has been acknowledged as an outstanding example of planning and engineering. Now that it has been built another challenge has to be dealt with. How will it be managed? How will it be maintained and developed as an icon? How will it provide a return to the taxpayer? This paper will reveal the vision of the people now responsible for managing the Busway and leading the people responsible for its development. The paper discusses the ways and means that will be used to produce a system that will be enjoyed by all of the people involved; bus passengers, bus drivers, Busway neighbours and managers of related modes of public transport.
