INTEGRATION OF TRANSIT SERVICES IN BRISBANE: CITY TRANS

CityTrans is a collaborative venture between Queensland Rail and Brisbane City Council to develop and implement integrated transit services. It was created in early 2000, with the formal agreement between the two organizations being executed in June of that year. This paper outlines the progress of the CityTrans venture to date, and highlights the various activities undertaken by the venture to nurture a culture within the two transport organizations towards integrated service planning and delivery. The activities highlighted in the paper range from the creation of new interchange facilities, in accordance with developed standards, to the provision of specialised services to suit emerging market opportunities. The paper also discusses the impact of these initiatives on achieving increased use of public transport within the targeted segments of the market place. This paper, and the CityTrans venture in general, focuses on the approach adopted from an operator's perspective to the challenge of positively influencing attitudes towards public transport.
