This article discusses the range of airport fire fighting vehicles that are presently available. The International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) guidelines for airport fire fighting vehicles classifies airports according to the various types of aircraft handled. These catagories determine the amount of fire extinguishing agents considered necessary to be held available. The guidelines also produced the following design characteristics for fire fighting vehicles: Rapid intervention vehicles; major vehicles; and equipment for rescue operations. The firms that are active in the fire fighting vehicle sector offer a wide range of vehicles including crash trucks, airfield fire fighting vehicles, crash/rescue vehicles with articulated steering, airfield tenders, rapid intervention vehicles, and light rescue vehicles.
