WHAT ARE THE FUEL ECONOMY POTENTIALS FOR EUROPEAN CARS?

Dynamometer tests (conducted in the U.S. by ERDA), and simulations based on empirical studies of European cars are presented in an effort to display respective fuel economy gains by continent of manufacture. Gains achieved by European manufacturers stem from improved vehicle bodies, improved engine-transmission matching, improved engine-vehicle matching and improved vehicle powerplant. A rough 4% improvement is estimated for American cars, while much larger figures are projected for European cars.
