To determine the optimum placement conditions of a radar vehicle detector to be used in a highway tunnel, each aspect of performance was measured by changing antenna parameters. Because of good coincidence between measured values and calculated values in which vehicles are assumed to be a cruising point, it is possible to forecast radar performance by using such a model. In addition, experimental data concerning reflection-level differences between vehicle types and influences of interference signals from the adjacent lane, which cause some interference in the measured value, are explained.
