Preslinging and strapping are simple, relatively low cost methods of unitizing a wide variety of cargoes and can often be an alternative to breakbulk or to the more sophisticated unitization techniques. Though a great deal of user experience has been gained over the years with preslinging and strapping, there has to date been no real attempt to disseminate this information nor to provide unbiased information and guidance on these handling techniques. A new report by TASC, the Technical Advisory Sub-Committee of ICHCA, made up of representatives from 18 of the ICHCA National Sections, has recently been published to fill this gap.
