THE POSSIBILITY OF A DIRECT DEPENDENCE BETWEEN RHEOLOGICAL STUDIES AND THE DESIGN OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS

POSSIBILITA DI UNA DIRETTA DIPENDENZA FRA STUDI RELOGICI E DIMENSIONAMENTO DELLE SOVRASTROUTTURE BITUMINOSE

In the design of flexible pavements the need is recognised for a single approach to the operative definition of the interdependence of the stress/structure system and the evaluation of the response of the bituminous layers to the simultaneous action of static and dynamic loads. This article describes a proposal for combining fatigue and creep tests in a single procedure, to define a limit state which provides a correlation between laboratory tests and field performance. A law is identified, which links failure times at a given frequency to the max/min stress ratio, for high levels of loading. It is suggested that the procedures described could be extended to defining a curve of minimum values which would relate to each maximum load value. /TRRL/
