THE PERCEPTION OF REFLECTED COLOURS ON NON-LUMINOUS TRAFFIC SIGNS

WAHRNEHMEN VON AUFSICHTFARBEN FUER NICHT SELBSTLEUCHTENDE VERKEHRSZEICHEN

In a large scale study, 565 reflected colours for traffic signs were observed by 10 test personnel, and the proportion of correctly recognised colours was determined. This report deals with some aspects of this problem, the recognisability of colours on non-luminous traffic signs and the relation between luminance and received light on signal lighting. The results of the test lead to certain conclusions regarding agreed colour boundaries for luminous colours for traffic signs. /TRRL/
